In the last week of June and the first weeks of July, the first fields with waxy, crumbly and slightly crumbly potatoes are harvested.
Frank Poelman, buyer at Landjuweel is very satisfied. “Together with a number of suppliers and growers, we have again focused on an early harvest from the Netherlands this year. Sometimes it’s exciting in the spring, but in the end the growing conditions were good and as a result there is already a nice fresh product in the shops at the beginning of July.
Our customers and consumers are increasingly seeing the importance of Dutch products.” This does not only concern the traditional early varieties Opperdoezer Ronde, Frieslanders and Doré, but rather the entire range of floury, slightly floury and organic potatoes. “Firm cooking types will be from Germany for another 3 to 4 weeks this year, but also that crop is already PlanetProof.” Poelman has good hopes of being able to supply this segment year-round from the Netherlands next year.
Landjuweel also packs organic potatoes from the Netherlands all year round. They have been doing this for the second year already, which fits in with the sustainable way of organic cultivation.
