Quality assurance is vital

We use a quality management system to guarantee that our customers supply end consumers with potatoes that are safe to eat and of the best quality. We carry out this in a demonstrably, socially responsible manner. A quality management system maps all the process steps and defines and develops procedures, rules, standards, actions and record-keeping.

Our quality management system at Landjuweel covers the purchasing, supply, assessment, washing, sorting, storage, processing if applicable, packaging, inspection, sales and delivery of table potatoes.

Our quality management system is based on a number of different standards and certifications.

BRCGS Food Safety

The BRCGS is a food safety standard. This standard sets out hygiene and food safety requirements for food processing companies that supply retailers directly. Items covered by the standard include product safety, integrity, legality and quality. By complying with this standard, Landjuweel can meet both legal requirements and those of our customers.

planet proof

‘On the way to PlanetProof’ is an independent quality mark to certify that a grower has put additional effort into improving sustainability in the areas of Energy and Climate, Biodiversity & Landscape, Water, Soil and Fertilisation.

The PlanetProof Chain of Custody standard has strict requirements regarding the separation and traceability of products of certified and non-certified processes from growers to retail.

This standard means that every product of ours sold with a PlanetProof label demonstrably originates with PlanetProof-certified growers, traders or trading firms.

Global G.a.p.

GLOBALG.A.P. is a globally recognised standard for the agricultural industry that monitors and certifies companies’ efforts in the areas of Food Safety, Sustainability and Quality.

The PlanetProof Chain of Custody standard has strict requirements regarding the traceability of products of certified and non-certified processes from growers to retail.

All the potatoes we buy are GLOBALG.A.P.-certified. This standard means that every product we sell demonstrably originates with GLOBALG.A.P.-certified growers, traders or trading firms.

Skal biocontrole

Skal Biocontrole is an independent organisation that monitors the entire Dutch organic supply chain to ensure that the production, processing and trading of organic products complies with organic EU regulations, the Dutch act on the quality of agricultural products and Skal Biocontrole’s own rules and principles.

The Skal quality mark for organic trade has strict requirements regarding the traceability and separation of regular and organic products from growers to retail. Every product of ours sold with the European organic logo demonstrably originates with Skal-certified growers, traders or trading firms.

GMP / NAO Hygiene code

Our waste products are suitable for use as quality animal feed. All our products meet the standards of GMP, an organisation that monitors animal feed safety.

The NAO is the Netherlands’ potato growers association. The Animal Feed Product Board has set the NAO Hygiene Code to be equal to the GMP’s requirements.
Our ‘NAO Hygiene Code GMP’ certification for animal feed demonstrates that our processes are safe and sustainable and our by-products are suitable as appropriate, healthy animal feed.

Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA)

The Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) audit protocol is the standard for participating in the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex). The SEDEX database is a world-renowned platform for sharing information about ethically sustainable production in the supply chain. The SEDEX database enables members to support supplier management and reduce risks by exchanging information. This leads to improvements in ethical business practices.

We have our company tested against the SMETA 4-Pillar. The audit focuses on four main pillars: labor standards, health and safety, environment, business ethics. The audit report with the results and points for improvement will be uploaded afterwards and can be viewed in the Sedex database. There are currently more than 80,000 audit reports uploaded to the Sedex database. This makes SMETA the most widely used ethical and social standard in the world.
